Editorial Review Policy

How we produce our reviews, what we assess, and the principles that guide our editorial independence.

What we review and why

Union Playroom publishes editorial profiles and comparison reviews of UK-facing sports betting products. The aim is to give users a clearer, more honest picture of what each platform offers before they decide whether to register — covering not just the headline features but the details that often go unmentioned in a standard operator landing page.

We are a comparison site, not a listing directory. We don't publish profiles of every product available — we review a curated set against consistent criteria, and we only publish a profile when we've spent enough time with a product to write something useful about it.

Our review criteria

Every product is assessed across the following areas:

Market coverage

Primary

The breadth and depth of available markets, including pre-match, in-play, and specialist sports. We look at whether the platform covers the sports most relevant to UK bettors — primarily football and horse racing — and how well it handles markets beyond those.

Odds presentation

Assessed

How clearly odds are displayed, whether they can be toggled between formats, and how easy it is to compare markets within a single event or across multiple events. Cluttered or unclear odds displays are noted.

Mobile usability

Assessed

Whether the mobile browser version and/or dedicated app work well in practice: navigation, load times, bet placement flow, and whether key features degrade significantly on a phone screen.

Bet builder and accumulator tools

Noted where relevant

For platforms that offer bet builder or accumulator features, we look at the range of combinable markets, the clarity of stake and return calculations, and how restrictions are communicated.

Payment options

Assessed

Range of available deposit and withdrawal methods, and how clearly processing times and any associated fees are communicated to users. We note whether standard UK debit card options are available.

Terms transparency

Assessed

Whether T&Cs are findable without significant effort, written in accessible language, and structured so a new user can reasonably understand what they're agreeing to. We note particularly when wagering requirements or restrictions are buried or unclear.

Responsible gambling visibility

Required

Whether safer gambling tools — deposit limits, self-exclusion, reality checks — are accessible from within the main interface without requiring a support ticket or lengthy navigation. We consider this a baseline requirement, not an optional feature.

How ratings are calculated

Our editorial scores are produced by assessing each platform across the criteria above and weighting those assessments relative to each other. Market coverage and responsible gambling visibility carry more weight than, for example, the breadth of payment options.

Scores are expressed on a scale of 0–10. They are not averages of user reviews, not aggregated from external data sources, and not provided or influenced by operators. They represent our editorial assessment at the time of review.

A score of 9.0 or above is not automatically achievable — it reflects a product that performs well across all assessed areas without significant weaknesses. Most products we review fall between 7.5 and 8.8.

Update and review cycle

We aim to update reviews when a significant platform change occurs — such as a major redesign, change to terms, or removal of a key feature. We also update when we receive credible information indicating our review no longer accurately reflects the product. Reviews that have not been updated carry a last-reviewed date.

Independence

Operators listed on this site do not see, approve, or have the ability to amend our review copy before or after publication. Commercial arrangements (see our Affiliate Disclosure) do not affect editorial scores or conclusions.

We do not publish fabricated testimonials, invented customer reviews, or stock-photo personas as if they were real customers. If we quote a product's own stated feature, we attribute it to the operator and note that it should be verified directly.

If you believe any review contains a factual inaccuracy, please use our contact form. We investigate all credible correction requests and update content promptly when corrections are warranted.
